Steve Garvey

US Senate (CA)

Former LA Dodger, SD Padre, husband to Candace, father, grandfather.

Steve Garvey’s remarkable journey from bat boy to World Series Champion is a testament to his unwavering dedication. Garvey played as a first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres from 1969 to 1987, was a 10-time All-Star, National League Most Valuable Player in 1974, and National League Championship Series MVP in 1978 and 1984. Garvey also holds the National League record for consecutive games played (1,207) and was named baseball’s “Iron Man” by Sports Illustrated. Garvey was part of the Dodgers’ infield that won four National League pennants and one World Series championship in 1981. From his early days as a major league rookie representing Vitalis in 1970, Garvey recognized the importance of business acumen in addition to athletic prowess. He seized numerous opportunities, becoming the face of brands like Adidas, Anheuser-Busch, and McDonald’s. His natural flair for marketing, advertising, and corporate relations, combined with representing various products, ultimately led to the creation of Garvey Marketing Group. Beyond his business endeavors, Garvey is a skilled motivational speaker, captivating audiences worldwide with his insights on leadership, teamwork, and integrity. He’s also made his mark in television production, co-executive producing “The International Sportsman” and hosting “Baseball’s Greatest Games.” Garvey’s efforts have not been exclusively focused on the field or in the boardroom. Giving back is a Garvey trademark. He succeeded Frank Sinatra as the National Campaign Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. In Addition, he assists in a variety of other causes: Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes, The Blind Children Center, The Sisters of Carondelet, United Way, Ronald McDonald House, Fans for the Cure Prostate Cancer Awareness, the Starlight Foundation, and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Garvey also finds the time to hold positions on numerous civic committees and corporate boards. Throughout his illustrious career, Garvey has garnered accolades for his discipline and dedication, including the Roberto Clemente Award and recognition as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men in America by the United States Jaycees. Born in Tampa, Florida, on December 22, 1948, Garvey earned a BS degree from Michigan State University, where he excelled in both baseball and football. Today, Steve Garvey, alongside his wife Candace of 34 years, continues to make a lasting impact on various fronts. His journey from the baseball field to the boardroom exemplifies his resilience and ability to excel in diverse arenas, making him a true role model for those aspiring to leadership and success.

I'm not a fan of Steve Garvey. During the debate, he seemed to either not have opinions about anything, or chose to keep them all to himself. He spoke very slowly, like he didn't know how to answer. I got the feeling that he hadn't even thought about the different topics. He was unwilling to answer anything about Trump. That isn't a good sign for me.
