West Orange is a special place, a mosaic of diversity and vibrancy. It has a great history, good schools, and access to plenty of parks and recreation -- a great place to raise a family.
Today, however, West Orange municipal government is at a crossroads. Our once vibrant downtown struggles, our finances are weakening, property taxes keep rising (putting pressure on residents, especially senior citizens, to sell their homes), and many decisions coming from Town Hall don’t appear to be made with the best interests of residents and the community-at-large in mind.
Joe Krakoviak sees a better future for West Orange -- a place where businesses are locating and staying, where property taxes aren't rising the legal maximum every year, where doing business with the township is transparent, easy and accountable. Joe sees a town where young (and older) families can afford to build roots and community, while senior citizens can age in place in their homes among their friends and family.
In his decade-long tenure on the West Orange Township Council, including a term as council president, he served as “taxpayer watchdog” (according to The Star-Ledger) – working to cut wasteful spending, negotiate more efficient and effective contracts with vendors, and promote economic activity that will bring services, jobs and higher revenues from commercial properties. He knows many ways that municipal government can serve residents better.
An active community leader and volunteer (click here to see Joe's accomplishments), Joe has a plan to revitalize West Orange (click here for his plan) -- including restoring fiscal responsibility; adopting smart economic development; promoting health & wellness, especially for seniors and the less-advantaged; preserving our open space and historic sites; bringing more transparency and accountability in government, and improving our personal, road and pedestrian safety.
Mayoral candidate Joe Krakoviak is ready and excited to bring responsible government to West Orange -- government that works for you!
